Research released this week reveals how mRNA-based COVID vaccines, including the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna options, can trigger myocarditis – inflammation of the heart muscle. While mRNA vaccines have proven to be extremely effective, in a small percentage of cases – mostly young men – the vaccines can trigger myocarditis several days after the second or third dose of the vaccine. Interestingly, the myocarditis is not caused by a dysfunctional immune response, but rather by an exaggerated immune response from certain immune cells and proteins that are deployed to fight off the pathogen.

Every immune response has an “on” phase and an “off” switch. The innate immune response for COVID-19 has stayed “on” for too long.
